Who is Basecamp AEC? Basecamp AEC exists to help clients avoid trouble in their construction projects before the projects begin and a place to come for support when the project faces problems.  We provide peer-review services before construction, third-party observation services during construction, re-design services for critical details during construction, expert witness services for construction defect litigation, and repair designs.

Paul Bennett, MS, PE, CBIE – Principal Engineer and Founder of Basecamp
Mr. Bennett is a licensed engineer and a licensed general contractor with 25 years of experience in the design and construction industry. He has testified in a variety of building and infrastructure related failures. Mr. Bennett has design experience and has been the engineer of record for both new and repair designs for civil and structural engineering projects.
Richard Vose, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Principal Architect and Partner
Mr. Vose is a licensed architect with over 29 years of experience in the design and construction industry. He has performed numerous investigations related to building envelope related failures and construction disputes. In addition, Mr. Vose has consulted on cases requiring an Architect’s performance within the Standard of Care and architectural copyright infringement.
Steven Meiggs, PE (CO,TN,FL) PG (FL,PA), Principal Engineer, Director of Geotechnical Engineering
Mr. Meiggs is a Colorado native, a School of Mines graduate and has over 25 years of industry experience. He has performed thousands of investigations related to soils problems and has testified in over 100 cases involving the same. A licensed engineer, a licensed geologist, and a geophysicist, Mr. Meiggs has designed and overseen numerous ground improvement repair projects and foundation repairs such as underpinning with micropiles. Like others at our firm, he serves on an ASTM committee.
Mike Gogel, MS, PE– Principal Engineer
Mr. Gogel is a licensed engineer in 41 states and has over 20 years of experience and has investigated a multitude of building performance problems. Mr. Gogel has experience in the construction industry and he has testified on a variety of building related failures.
Mike McCurry, PE, LEED AP – Project Manager
Mr. McCurry is a licensed mechanical engineer with over 15 years of experience in HVAC and plumbing system design. Mr. McCurry has worked for some notable companies such as Lennox Industries and Black and Veatch. Licensed PE in IA and CO.
Amr Helal, PhD, PE, PMP – Project Manager
Dr. Helal is a licensed civil engineer with over 15 years of experience in civil/geotechnical engineering between academic and industry exposure. He is experienced in geotechnical lab and field testing, soil-structure interaction, foundation performance in expansive and collapsible soils, geophysical testing, slope stability analysis, geotechnical numerical modeling, and risk analysis using probabilistic approaches. As part of his PhD, he performed numerical modeling to study the effect of storm cycles on the performance of embankment structures such as dams and levees. He has worked on several geotechnical projects funded by agencies such as: ALDOT, NC DOT and The Department of Homeland Security.
Charles (C.J.) Coccia, PhD, PE – Project Manager
Dr. Coccia has a PhD in geotechnical engineering from CU Boulder and has several years of experience investigating soil/structure interaction due to expansive and collapsible soils in Colorado. he has investigated numerous other soils related failures such as retaining wall collapses and slope stability problems. Dr. Coccia also routinely investigates asphalt and concrete surfaces for distress caused by soil movement and grading/drainage site conditions.
Evan Gerbo, PhD, PE – Project Engineer
Dr. Gerbo is a structural engineer with experience in concrete, masonry, wood, and steel framed structures and their facades. His work focuses on analysis and repair of buildings and other structures affected by construction errors, foundation movement, and damage caused by natural disasters. He has experience in Finite Element Modeling (FEA) in ABAQUS and SAP 2000 and is a licensed commercial drone pilot.
Tyler Lovejoy, AIA, NCARB, LEED BD+C – Project Architect
Mr. Lovejoy is a licensed architect with several years of experience in the construction industry and experience designing healthcare, educational, commercial, and residential facilities.
Nick Bauchat, EI – Engineer Intern
Mr. Bauchat is a Colorado native and earned his bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University. He provides support for various types of construction related issues including HVAC and plumbing systems.
Gabe Carballo, BS Arch – Architect Intern
Mr. Carballo is pursuing a Master of Architecture degree and provides architectural assistance for projects.
Shawn Stoicu, M. Ed – Office Manager
Ms. Stoicu has approximately 30 years of professional administrative experience, a Master of Education degree and has recently spent many years providing administrative leadership in Higher Education.
Charles Nugent – Technical Editor
Mr. Nugent holds a bachelor's of arts degree from Louisiana State University and is a technical editor at Basecamp.
Cooper Stratmeyer, EI - Engineer Intern
Mr. Stratmeyer is a Colorado native and earned his bachelor’s degree in Integrated Design Engineering - Mechanical from the University of Colorado. He provides support for various types of construction related mechanical issues.
Cat Gerbo, ISA - Financial Coordinator
Cat brings a strong background in accounting, information systems, and business analytics to her role as the Financial Coordinator at Basecamp. Cat earned her B.S. in Computer Information Systems from MSU Denver in 2023 and has since worked in data and systems analysis. With a passion for organization and problem-solving, Cat is committed to ensuring smooth financial operations and providing valuable insights to support the firm's growth.
Amin Mazdeh, M.S. - Project Engineer
Amin holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from the University of Colorado - Boulder. With over seven years of experience managing structural concrete projects from initial estimating through project closeout, Amin has honed his expertise in delivering complex projects on time and within budget. His extensive knowledge and hands-on approach makes Amin an invaluable asset to the Basecamp team.
David Auerbach, M.Arch - Assistant Project Architect
Mr. Auerbach is an architectural designer with experience in the design of residential and mixed-use buildings. He is also well-versed in topics concerning digital modeling and fabrication, translations across software, as well as between drawing, model, and building.
